Types of Accessible Vans for Commercial Use

Accessible Full-Size Van:

Accessible Full-Size Van:

The full-size van has set the standard in wheelchair access for decades. The ‘big van’ versatility allows for many different configurations for wheelchair access. Some vehicle options include the Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter, and the Dodge Promaster. They can be configured by the factory with several different roof heights and body lengths. This allows seating for multiple wheelchairs and passengers. Whether the van is for private use or paratransit applications, many floor plans suit every need.

We proudly offer the AMF Bruns “Smartfloor” and the Abilitrax system for installation in the above vans. Please call for information on these safe, flexible seating and wheelchair tie-down flooring systems.

Features of the full-size van conversion include:

  • Extra space for wheelchair access, passengers, and luggage
  • Large towing capacity
  • OPTIONAL factory tall roof and tall door for head clearance
  • Many wheelchair lift choices can be installed in rear or side doors. Please see our lifting devices section for more information.
  • Remote access, including powered doors

Accessible Minivan Side Entry

Accessible Minivan Side Entry

The Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are common vehicles for the side entry conversion. Lowering the floor 10” or more allows you to ride comfortably in your chair and offers over 57” of head clearance. Also, the lowered floor enables a relatively short, lightweight ramp for wheelchair access. Inside, the seating can be configured in many ways. The removable driver and passenger seats allow for riding in your wheelchair in either the driver or passenger positions and in the center row position.

Features of the side entry lowered floor minivan conversions include:

  • 10” – 12” lowered floor
  • Power or manual ramp choices with an option for fold-out or slide-away ramp (on some vehicles)
  • Ground effects
  • Powered door option for independent wheelchair access
  • Kneeling suspension
  • Vinyl flooring

  • Manual or automatic tie-down systems (see our accessories section on this site)

Accessible Minivan Rear Entry

Accessible Minivan Rear Entry

The Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country, Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are common vehicles for the rear entry conversion.

The rear entry lowered floor minivan conversion is a popular wheelchair access system allowing the wheelchair user to ride comfortably as a passenger in either the mid-row or rear row positions in their wheelchair. The lowered floor dramatically increases headroom, and a feather-weight aluminum ramp is easy to stow and deploy. Rear access to the minivan makes loading and unloading in parking lots a breeze.

Features of the rear entry conversion include:

  • Featherweight manual folding ramp
  • Lowered floor from tailgate to just behind the front seats (driver and passenger)
  • Non-skid vinyl flooring
  • Manual retractable tie-down system

In a world that's rapidly acknowledging the importance of inclusivity, equipping your business with commercial wheelchair-accessible vans is not just a nod to progress but a smart business move. Whether it's the spaciousness of a full-size van, the convenience of a minivan, or the day-to-day utility of an accessible taxi, the right vehicle can make a world of difference.
